Joe Lieberman Connecticut Scholarship Fund

Joe Lieberman Connecticut Scholarship Fund supports outstanding high school seniors from Connecticut as they prepare to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Established in 2013 by U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman after his retirement from the U.S. Senate, the fund extends a public-service legacy built over more than forty years of service to Connecticut in Hartford and Washington, DC. Its work centers on renewable scholarship support for students pursuing full-time undergraduate study at accredited institutions of their choice, including two-year colleges, four-year universities, and vocational-technical schools. The fund’s signature initiative, the Joe Lieberman Connecticut Scholarship Program, focuses on students who combine academic excellence with leadership and service. Eligibility standards require applicants to be Connecticut high school seniors attending public or private schools or home school in the state, to hold at least a 3.8 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and to demonstrate outstanding leadership potential and a record of community service. Selection also considers school and community participation, work experience, unusual personal or family circumstances, an online recommendation, and an essay about collaborating with people who hold different viewpoints. Financial need is not part of the selection process. The organization awards scholarships of $5,000, with up to five awards granted each year. Those awards may be renewed for as many as three additional years, or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, provided recipients maintain a cumulative 3.2 GPA in full-time study.
