Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Sponsor. Payment is made in August. Selection of Finalists Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of: Academic performance Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities Work experience A statement of educational and career goals and objectives Unusual personal or family circumstances An online recommendation And essay that addresses the applicant’s personal life experiences and/or cultural background and how it has shaped their desire to pursue a career in homebuilding or construction, and how they plan to serve underrepresented communities through their career. Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award. Selection of finalists is made by Scholarship America and selection of recipients are made by Fred Perry and Gifford Shaw. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
