Teria Onwuaduegbo Foundation

Teria Onwuaduegbo Foundation is a foundation that honors the memory of Teria Onwuaduegbo and advances educational opportunity for Black women pursuing STEM fields. Its work centers on encouraging women to follow in Teria’s footsteps and pursue ambitious academic and career goals despite structural obstacles. The foundation connects Teria’s legacy to direct student support in undergraduate education, with a clear emphasis on fields where women remain underrepresented. The foundation’s featured support initiative serves Black female-identifying undergraduate students studying computer science, mathematics, or engineering. That focus places the organization within the broader effort to expand representation in STEM, especially for Black women who face both racial and gender-based discrimination. Teria’s own academic path in mathematics at Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis gives the foundation’s mission a personal and educational anchor. The organization uses that legacy to promote persistence, ambition, drive, and impact among students preparing for technical and quantitative careers. The foundation funds a multi-winner scholarship with a total award amount of $3,250, divided into three awards. Its application process asks students to explain their career interests and the steps they have already taken toward their goals, reinforcing a mission that values action, determination, and forward momentum. By directing resources to undergraduate Black women in computer science, mathematics, and engineering, the foundation supports both individual advancement and a broader community need for greater inclusion in STEM classrooms, extracurricular settings, and professions.
