Michigan Gateway Community Foundation invests in educational opportunity through scholarship programs tied closely to southwest Michigan communities and schools. Its scholarship activity reaches graduating seniors at Brandywine High School in Niles, Michigan, as well as other defined local audiences in and around Brandywine, Buchanan, Niles, and Cass County. The foundation’s scholarship portfolio shows a community-based approach: it supports students pursuing postsecondary education at multiple levels, including professional certification, 1-year certificate, associate, and bachelor’s degree pathways, and it uses academic and civic criteria such as a minimum 3.00 GPA, leadership, and community service.
A clear example is the Ann Coulston Memorial Scholarship, which opens on January 15, 2026 and closes on May 15, 2026. That program serves graduating seniors from Brandywine High School in Niles and offers awards of up to $1,000 for study in any field. The foundation also administers targeted scholarships for distinct populations, including the Semper Fi Scholarship Cpl. Ian Steward Memorial Scholarship for active and reservist United States Marines who live in the Brandywine community, Buchanan, Niles, or Cass County, Michigan.
