Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers supports students in electrical engineering and related fields through specialized society-based opportunities tied to technical study and project work. Within the organization, the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) sponsors the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society Undergraduate/Pre-Graduate Scholarship, a program focused on undergraduate and graduate student members who want to take courses or carry out a thesis or other project in the microwave and radio frequency (RF) area. That scholarship opens on 3/15/2026, closes on 4/15/2026, and offers awards of up to $1,500.

The organization’s support in this instance is structured around academic and faculty-guided technical development. Eligible applicants are students pursuing a B.S., M.S., or combined B.S./M.S. program in electrical engineering or a related field. The work must be supervised by a faculty mentor, and the student and faculty jointly submit a 2-page proposal explaining plans for coursework, a project, and a career in microwaves and RF. Faculty mentors for this program must be IEEE MTT-S members, and project work may be conducted with industry participation as long as the faculty mentor remains in place.
