AROC is an organization that supports Black and African American students pursuing STEM education, with a clear emphasis on artificial intelligence and machine learning. Its work centers on expanding access to educational opportunity in fields that continue to face persistent diversity gaps, especially in areas tied to emerging technologies and innovation. AROC connects its support to a broader social purpose: increasing representation in AI and ML so that the people building these systems bring a wider range of lived experience and can use technology to raise awareness of social causes.
The organization directs its support to high school and undergraduate students and prioritizes students who are already engaging with STEM pathways. Its scholarship activity focuses on students with hands-on experience in AI and machine learning, including coding and app creation, and it values ambition, drive, and passion in the students it selects. AROC also gives preference to applicants from the U.S. Virgin Islands and to students who attend or attended Charlotte Amalie High School, showing a specific interest in extending opportunity to that community while still serving a broader population of eligible students.
