- This program is open to the sons, daughters, and legally adopted children of highway workers who have died or become permanently disabled in roadway construction zone accidents. Applicants must be attending or planning to attend an accredited 4-year college or university, 2-year college, or vocational/technical school. Candidates for an M.B.A. degree or a master's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or another construction-related program are also eligible. Their parent must have been employed by a transportation construction firm or a transportation public agency at the time of death or disabling injury. Selection is based on academic performance (GPA of 2.5 or higher), a 200-word statement from the applicant on reasons for wanting to continue education, letters of recommendation, and financial need.
