Understanding the Prompt
Before you begin writing, carefully read the scholarship prompt to understand what the Aronos Research Women's Club Scholarship committee is looking for. Focus on the values and goals of the scholarship, and consider how your experiences align with them. This scholarship aims to support women pursuing education, so reflect on your journey and how it connects to this mission.
Brainstorming Across the Four Buckets
To create a compelling narrative, gather material across four key areas:
- Background: Reflect on your personal history, upbringing, and experiences that have shaped your educational goals. Consider challenges you’ve faced and how they have influenced your path.
- Achievements: List your significant accomplishments, both academically and in extracurricular activities. Use specific metrics, such as grades, awards, or leadership roles, to quantify your impact.
- The Gap: Identify what you currently lack in terms of skills or knowledge and explain how this scholarship will help you bridge that gap. Be clear about your educational goals and how they align with your future aspirations.
- Personality: Humanize your essay by sharing personal anecdotes and values. Include specific moments that illustrate your character, resilience, and commitment to your field of study.
Outline Your Essay
Structure your essay to present a clear, logical flow of ideas. A recommended outline might include:
- Introduction: Start with a vivid scene or moment that encapsulates your journey. Avoid generic statements and aim to engage the reader immediately.
- Background: Discuss your upbringing and experiences that have shaped you, linking them to your educational ambitions.
- Achievements: Highlight key accomplishments, using specific examples and outcomes that demonstrate your capabilities.
- The Gap: Clearly articulate the skills or knowledge you seek to gain through this scholarship and how it will facilitate your growth.
- Personality: Share personal stories that reflect your values and commitment, making sure to connect them back to your educational goals.
- Conclusion: Summarize your main points and reflect on how receiving this scholarship will impact your future.

Drafting Voice and Style
As you draft your essay, maintain an active voice and be specific in your language. Use concrete examples and details to illustrate your points. Avoid vague statements and clichés; instead, focus on authentic storytelling that reflects your unique experiences and insights.
Revision and Reflection: The “So What?” Factor
After drafting, take a step back and revise your essay with a critical eye. Ask yourself, “So what?” for each section. Ensure that every paragraph contributes to your overall narrative and reinforces your suitability for the scholarship. Seek feedback from mentors or peers to gain different perspectives and refine your message.
Common Pitfalls to Avoid
As you finalize your essay, be mindful of these common mistakes:
- Avoid starting with clichés or generic statements that do not engage the reader.
- Do not use vague language or superlatives without backing them up with evidence.
- Steer clear of passive voice; always attribute actions to specific subjects.
- Ensure all facts and details are accurate and verifiable; do not fabricate experiences or achievements.
